It was all going so well.
She may have had a few stumbles along the way but Lindsay Lohan stepped out of her plush London hotel looking every inch the Hollywood starlet on New Year's Eve morning - and with plans for a quiet dinner with friends, everything appeared to be uncharacteristically low-key.
UntIl, that is, a few hours later when Lindsay was seen walking into the Dorchester in a decidedly scruffy outfit more suited to gardening than entering one of the plushest hotels in London.

As she wandered into the hotel, Lohan, who seemed to be wearing an middle-aged man's jacket, was helped by a security guard who guided her past stunned onlookers.
Her striped top was uncharacteristically baggy and had an array of odd stains which surely weren't picked up in plush department store Harrods, where she had been earlier.
Perhaps the 26-year-old was simply tired as she had been shopping up a storm in the high end department store while carrying a Hermes Birkin bag, despite struggling to pay her mounting legal bills.
Tried? Lindsay looked drained, perhaps after a long day of shopping as she headed back to her hotel

The 'Liz & Dick' star has been seen wearing an array of faux fur coats and on December 30 was in a wonderful mood, blowing kisses to bystanders outside the celebrity hotspot's entrance in Mayfair, smiling and hugging her coat close.
Underneath the wrap, she was wearing a white A-line mini dress.
But it was a different story on New Year's Eve evening as she kept her head down and her wild hair scraped back.

Lindsay, whose probation was revoked earlier this month after she allegedly lied about driving her Porsche during a car crash in June - said earlier on New Year's Eve that she feels blessed to be able to spend time with her loved ones and is hoping 2013 brings good things her way amid reports she is facing a possible eight months in jail.
The 26-year-old actress wrote on her Twitter page: 'I feel very blessed to be able to spend time w/ my mom, family&very wonderful friends. Very grateful.. May only good things come this year. (sic)'
The actress - who is rumoured to have signed up to star on 'Celebrity Big Brother' for two weeks before her next court appearance on January 15 .

Lindsay was recently said to have admitted to her friends that she had hit rock bottom and needed professional help but claimed she didn't have the money to hire a psychiatrist as she is currently in debt.
The actress was given $100,000 from her friend Charlie Sheen to help cover her enormous tax bill.
